World IP Day

World Intellectual Property Day is an international festival of creativity and innovation which takes place on or around 26 April of every year.

It celebrates the entry into force of the international agreement that established the World Intellectual Property Organization (“WIPO”), the UN specialist agency that assists governments to protect investment in creativity, enterprise and innovation (“intellectual assets”) through a bundle of laws known collectively as “intellectual property”.

The theme for 2024 is “IP and the SDGs – Building our common future with innovation and creativity”.  SDGs stand for Sustainable Development Goals which were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.  The UN describes them as “a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.”  There are 17 of them – listed in this video from United nations Foundation.

Today, we celebrate the invaluable role of intellectual property in fostering innovation and creativity worldwide. At the Business Village, we’re passionate about empowering local businesses and supporting them however we can. Each month, we hold a drop-in IP clinic run by barrister Jane Lambert. On the second Tuesday of every month, Jane holds up to 4 free consultations of 30 minutes – click here to view upcoming dates and see how she can help your business.
