Cancer support is coming to The Business Village in Barnsley this October.
On Wednesday 14th October, Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Big Purple Bus will be here from 9am to 2pm. You can drop in, ask questions, and find out more about the support available.
And you don’t need to work at The Business Village to come along.
The bus is open to the wider local community. So, whether you live nearby, work in the area, or are supporting a loved one affected by cancer, you’re welcome to stop by. You can also call in just to understand more about cancer and the support available.
The Big Purple Bus is part of Weston Park Cancer Charity’s work to bring cancer support closer to local communities across South Yorkshire. Instead of having to
travel somewhere else for support, people can meet the Weston Park team in a place that’s already part of their local community.
As Hayley Reynolds, Fundraising Manager – Corporate at Weston Park Cancer Charity, explains:
“Our Big Purple Bus allows us to bring the services of Weston Park Cancer Charity directly into the community and workplace, allowing everyone to have equal access to cancer support services. It’s a fantastic chance to have a conversation about any concerns, no matter how big or small.”
The Big Purple Bus team includes healthcare professionals and advisors who can answer questions and offer practical, emotional, and wellbeing support. You don’t need to have a big concern or know exactly what you want to ask – sometimes, a friendly chat is a good place to start.
And sometimes, that conversation can give someone the confidence to take the next step.
Hayley shared a great example of this from a recent workplace visit.
In August, an employee came to the Big Purple Bus because he was worried about a mole that had changed. He’d spoken to one of Weston Park’s healthcare professionals the year before and wanted to ask about his concerns.
The team could not give a diagnosis, but they were able to offer advice and encourage him to arrange a GP appointment for further investigation. He followed their advice and was later diagnosed with a type of skin cancer. Swift testing allowed the cancerous cells to be removed.
The employee was very appreciative of the support received and thanked the team for giving him the confidence to go back to his GP.
It’s a good reminder that sometimes, having someone to talk to can make all the difference.
The Big Purple Bus isn’t about giving people a diagnosis or having all the answers. It’s about making support easier to reach, listening to concerns, and helping people understand what they can do next.
And that’s something anyone can benefit from.
Although the Big Purple Bus will be based at The Business Village, its doors are open to everyone. Cancer can affect all of us. We may be diagnosed ourselves, supporting someone we care about, or simply want some information and reassurance.
Bringing the bus into a familiar setting means people can drop in for a chat and find out where they can get help, without having to make a special journey.
The Big Purple Bus offers a welcoming environment where you can call in as you’re passing. There’s no need to book an appointment.
You might have a question you’ve been meaning to ask. You might be worried about something and want to know where to turn. Or you might want to learn more about the early signs of cancer and the help available in the area.

The Big Purple Bus has already visited hundreds of community events across the region. And now it’s coming to The Business Village, giving local people the chance to get support right on their doorstep.

The Big Purple Bus will be at The Business Village in Barnsley on Wednesday 14th October 2026.
